Makena

This design is named after the beautiful baby girl
that was born on the same day I created this pattern.

I've always loved three dimensional ornaments,
but somehow never actually got around to tatting any.

I wanted to try making my own pattern and this is what I ended up with.
I think I did pretty good for a first try at my own pattern.

I tried making the same pattern using size 5 pearl cotton.
Of course, the ornament is larger.
I think the variegation is beautiful.

This is my first attempt at writing out a pattern.

If you try it, please let me know how it works for you.

Here's what it looks like when you put a bead on every picot.

Monica, it's absolutely beautiful! Your talent never ceases to amaze me. I am so very honoured and touched that you named your design after my daughter. Thank you for that.

This is amazing did you starch the tatting around a ball? Brilliant work, and the simplicity makes it that much more beautiful in my eyes. Merry Christmas

Thank you for the compliment on my tatting.

I dipped the tatting in fabric stiffner.
Then I blotted out the excess with paper towel.
After that, blew up a balloon inside the tatting and tied it closed.
I hung it up to dry overnight.
Once it was dry, I popped the balloon.
I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

I love these! I have done a 3-D egg like this! LOL! You are welcome to go to my blog and see. It's under the label "tatted egg".

Can't wait for the pattern. Absolutely awesome! I've been wanting to try tatting the designs to put on ornaments, but I really like this so much better. I will be watching to see what else you come up with next.

Tat on, tat on....
