Bejewelled Snowflake

Bejewelled Snowflake - beads omitted.  I thought the sparkle of the thread was enough.

A Note from Niece Meghan

In December I gave my nieces each an embroidered pillow case for Christmas (See Crochet Skirt Lady in Yellow and Crochet Skirt Lady in Orange).

Recently I received a letter from niece Meghan.
"Your pillow cases have given me great drawing ideas."

It’s such a nice feeling when someone tells you that you inspired them and even better when it’s your niece.

Today is Miss Meghan’s birthday.  Please help me wish her a happy day.

What Was the Give Away?

Perhaps you've been wondering what was in my Celebration Give Away that was won by Tatting Marie.  Now that she received the package I can tell you!
Celebration Give Away Treasures

I received the nicest email from Tatting Marie when she got the package.  She said:

Hi Monica,

Your package with so many wonderful treasurers arrived in yesterday's mail.

The beautiful hand tatted snowflake will look very pretty on my Christmas tree. The lovely red tatted heart will have a special home on a pillow I'm in the process of sewing. That spool of DMC #80 tatting thread will be used for a special tatting project in the very near future. One can can never have too many tatting shuttle - it will be put to good use right away. That bag of seed beads with so many colors will come in handy when I start my Christmas projects this fall. What a lovely bookmark, just right to keep my place marked in my favorite tatting book while tatting a pattern. Love the note cards, I'll add a bit of tatting to them before sending them out. I have some unique thoughts on how to use the using the "tags", too. The tie-tack pin is special in it's self and I enjoyed reading about Winnipeg.

I enjoy "checking into" your blog and seeing what you are doing. Many thanks, again for the "wonderful goodies".

Marie

I am so happy you like your surprise Tatting Marie.

Happy Tatting!

I Give Up

I tried tatting the motif from my something's wrong post yesterday.
Same thread but this time I followed the advice from yesterday's post and made much smaller picots.
I ended up with the same problem - too much curling.

I used the iron to stretch, press and steam the motif into place but it didn't work out very nice.
Left: Tried to steam and press the motif into shape
Right: Removed curled edge from first attempt and pressed

The photo and the pattern diagram seem to match.
I wonder if the issue is the numbers noted on the diagram.
Or, perhaps my tension is too tight?

With smaller picots the piece laid quite nicely until I added the fourth round.

I give up on this one.  I think I'll cut off that last round, block the two motifs, starch them and call the ornaments.

Something's Gone Wrong

I'm trying to tat what I think looks like a fairly simple little doily motif but something's gone wrong.
The fourth round is pulling too tight - curling up the motif.
Last round of tatting refuses to lie flat even with pressing

I must have done something wrong following the pattern but I can't figure it out.  I'll have to cut off the last round and try again.  Any ideas what I may have done wrong?  Pattern below.
